Modern Mom and Lessons Learned From Industry Leading Make-Up Artists

Among the challenges of being a modern Mom, is the amount of pressure to appear as you have it all under control. Stressing over the  day to day routine  caring for the little ones and putting dinner on the table after a full day at work or being a homemaker with mad skills. The routine seems to mount when carpooling, errands, and appointments have to be kept. The idea of walking out the door half-groomed seems miraculous and the vision of being "dolled up" is a far stretch unless the babysitter arrives or Grandma & Grandpa come to the rescue. As a result, carving out the mandatory "Me Time" in combination to simplifying one's beauty routine, can bring about pure bliss. I have come to accept that I can't blast Florence+The Machine in my bathroom and lock myself up for hours sorting through eyeshadow palettes or mixing up lipsticks from their tubes with spatulas and concocting the perfect coral-red shade. Here are 6 steps that I swear by:

 1) Cleanse face with a mild facial soap and follow with Lancome's Tonique Eclat Clarifying Exfoliating Toner, finishing with non-comedogenic moisturizer like HydraMax by Chanel.
 2) Curl lashes before adding 2 -3 coats of my favorite mascara, Chanel & Maybelline (found in every Makeup Artist's kit) layered cleaning up smudges with a wet q-tip.
 3) Brushing up eyebrows with a transparent brow gel and getting brows threaded every 6 weeks.
 4) Bronzer on the face is perfect to mimic a glow. My selects are Guerlian Terracotta (kind  of a splurge) so if your trying to stay in budget  try L'Oreal Glam Bronze Dual Pressed Powder applied in a shape of the number 3 left to right, add a touch of blush to give the look of fertility.
 5) Apply a nude lipstick Myth by MAC or  Chelsea Girls by Nars
 6) Add a spritz of a perfume changing things up during seasons. During Winter,  I love Diptyque Paris Fragrances. In the Suummertime  try Chantecaille Frangrances, but for the  Fall  I swear by Tocca or Creed 's line.

"Slightly Addicted" Movies and Rediscovering Long Time Favorites

I think about movies alot. When it comes to free time, I look forward at the chance of watching a fantastic feature. The best part is the escapism because you're away from the realities of life and it gives you a brief moment to forget. Oh, and all the latest ways to rent makes it easier to catch up on old favorites and watch the latest Oscar surprises.

New Standards and Health Guidelines for Models

It's scary to think that the models of today have gotten skinner and younger. Shrinking right before our very eyes. It can't keep going on like this. It's just not right. Eager to see the changes and giving the girls a break.

“The CFDA remains deeply committed to our message of Health As Beauty and Diversity during Fashion Week and throughout the year. Fashion Week has become a powerful voice which reaches millions of people across the globe and we should not underestimate the consequences of the messages that we send.We have received pledges from all the top modeling agencies – including DNA, Elite, Ford, IMG, Marilyn, New York, Next, One, Supreme, Trump, Wilhelmina, and Women – that they will not send out any models under the age of 16 for shows. Our newly launched Ambassador Program will continue this season with veteran models from DNA, IMG, Marilyn, Next, and Women providing advice and support to up-and-coming models. We each have the power to impact the lives of women. Together, we can let the world know that diversity and Health Is Beauty are what we stand for.”

Current Guidelines:
• Educate the industry to identify the early warning signs in an individual at risk of developing an eating disorder.
• Encourage models who may have an eating disorder to seek professional help in order to continue modeling. And models who are receiving professional help for an eating disorder should not continue modeling without that professional’s approval.
• Develop workshops for the industry (including models and their families) on the nature of eating disorders, how they arise, how we identify and treat them, and complications if they are untreated.
• Support the well-being of younger individuals by not hiring models under the age of sixteen for runway shows; not allowing models under the age of eighteen to work past midnight at fittings or shoots; checking IDs to ensure that models are the appropriate age; providing regular breaks and rest. Consult the applicable labor laws found at www.labor.state.ny.us when working with models under sixteen.
• Supply healthy meals, snacks, and water backstage and at shoots and provide nutrition and fitness education.• *Promote a healthy backstage environment by raising the awareness of the impact of smoking and tobacco-related disease among women, ensuring a smoke-free environment, and address underage drinking by prohibiting alcohol.
So AWESOME!
XXOO,
Yoanna
